Hunger Strike Launched in Eastern Province Demanding International Justice for Chemmani Mass Graves
The Association of Relatives of the Forcibly Disappeared in the Eastern Province has launched a symbolic hunger strike from today, 27 September 2025, which will continue until 1 October 2025. The protest is being held to demand international justice regarding the Chemmani human burial sites.
A similar protest was launched on 25 September 2025 in Jaffna by families of the disappeared from the Northern Province.
Both protests reject domestic accountability mechanisms and call for international intervention to ensure justice.
Relatives of the disappeared, members of the public, political party representatives, and civil society activists took part in these demonstrations.
