The commencement meeting for the Maha Season agricultural activities for the Chenkalady Divisional Secretariat Division of Eravur Pattu, Batticaloa, was held today at the Chenkalady Divisional Secretariat.
The meeting was chaired by the Additional District Government Agent of Batticaloa, Mrs. Sudharshini Srigaan. It was attended by the Chenkalady Divisional Secretary, Mr. K. Thanapalasundaram, the Deputy Director of the Department of Agrarian Services, the Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture, the Irrigation Department Engineer, officials of the Department of Wildlife Conservation, officials of the Forest Conservation Department, officers of the Paddy Marketing Board, Grama Sevakas, representatives of insurance companies, leaders of farmers’ organizations, farmers, and cultivators.
The meeting, which began at 2:00 p.m. today, discussed initial measures for Maha Season cultivation, including seed distribution, irrigation work on tanks, fertilizer supply, and related matters, with specific dates being proposed.
Further discussions were also held regarding agricultural challenges such as fertilizer issues, land disputes, concerns of the Mayilathamadu Mathavan farmers, and problems including illegal sand excavation.
