Prisoner Commits Suicide Inside Eravur Court – Batticaloa
A prisoner committed suicide by hanging inside the Eravur Court premises in Batticaloa this afternoon (26.09.2025), according to Eravur Police.
The deceased was a 40-year-old father of two from the Misnagar area in Eravur.
He had been remanded on seven charges related to possession of narcotics and theft and was produced before the court today. Following the proceedings, the court had ordered that he be further remanded.
It is reported that the prisoner went to the restroom inside the court premises, where he hanged himself. He had torn a piece of his sarong, tied one end to a window and the other around his neck, and was found hanging.
Another individual who went to the restroom noticed the body and informed the police.
Batticaloa District Forensic Police visited the court premises and collected evidence, while the Batticaloa District Judicial Medical Officer conducted the postmortem examination and submitted a report.
Eravur Acting Magistrate V.Thiageswaran also visited the scene and initiated further investigations.
