Public Protest in Front of Eastern University – Intervention by NPP Batticaloa Organizer Thilaganathan!

Yesterday morning (29), local residents and various public organizations staged a peaceful demonstration in front of the Eastern University located in Vantharumoolai, Batticaloa, demanding the reopening of a traditional road leading to their village.

Speaking during the protest, the participants alleged that their main access road to the village was closed during the wartime in 1990. They further stated that even after the end of the war, the road has been completely blocked due to the construction of a perimeter wall by the Eastern University.

Therefore, they urged authorities to provide an immediate solution to this long-standing issue and reopen their traditional access route to the village.

N. Thilaganathan, the Batticaloa District Organizer of the National People’s Power (NPP) and the Liaison Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture and Lands, along with N. Nagendran, a Chenkalady Pradeshiya Sabha member from the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK), visited the protest site and engaged in discussions with the public.

During this meeting, the protesters handed over a memorandum containing their legitimate demands to the representatives.

The demonstration was carried out with the primary slogan: "The road to our village must be reopened immediately."
