Discontinuation of Newspaper Distribution by Eravur Urban Council – Library Readers Affected
The sudden halt in the daily newspaper distribution previously provided by the Eravur Urban Council to the Eravur-Ampal Public Library has caused significant inconvenience to its regular readers.
For over 15 years, the Eravur Urban Council has been supplying daily newspapers to the Eravur-Ampal Public Library through its funding. However, without any prior notice, this service has now been discontinued. As a result, the library users — including university students, researchers, the general public, and especially the elderly who are accustomed to reading newspapers every morning — have lost a valuable source of information.
Library users expressed their concern stating, “Newspapers were an essential source for education, competitive exam preparation, employment opportunities, and political and social news. The discontinuation of this service has caused us considerable difficulty.”
Due to the sudden stop in a service that had been provided for many years, some library visitors are now turning away without making use of the facility.
Readers argue that the distribution of daily newspapers, which has been in practice for years, should not have been stopped considering the interests of regular newspaper readers.
They urge the Eravur Urban Council to reconsider its decision and resume the newspaper distribution service. Additionally, they request that the newly appointed Chairman of the Eravur Urban Council, Mr. M.S. Nazeem, pay attention to this matter.
